Bandoeng’22 Flight to Java pandan aviation cocktail

A Pandan Aviation Cocktail

The Bandoeng’22 Flight to Java is a creative reinterpretation of the classic Aviation cocktail, one of the most elegant and iconic drinks in classic mixology. Traditionally made with gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette and fresh lemon juice, the Aviation is known for its delicate floral aroma and distinctive color.

In this version, tequila replaces gin, introducing earthy and grassy notes that complement the floral character of violet liqueur and the aromatic sweetness of Bandoeng’22 Pandan Liqueur. The result is a layered cocktail where citrus freshness, floral elegance and subtle pandan notes come together in a balanced and refreshing drink.

The Bandoeng’22 Flight to Java shows how classic cocktails can evolve by introducing Southeast Asian flavors into timeless cocktail structures.

A Pandan Twist on the Classic Aviation Cocktail

The Aviation cocktail dates back to the early 20th century and is known for its floral elegance and delicate balance between citrus and liqueurs. The use of crème de violette gives the drink its signature floral aroma and light purple color.

The Bandoeng’22 Flight to Java introduces pandan as an aromatic bridge between citrus and floral flavors. Pandan’s soft vanilla-like sweetness works beautifully with the floral notes of violet liqueur, creating a cocktail that feels both refined and exotic.

Floral Cocktails with Pandan

Floral cocktails have become increasingly popular in modern mixology. Ingredients like violet liqueur, elderflower and citrus create drinks that are elegant, aromatic and refreshing.

Pandan fits naturally within this category because of its warm, fragrant aroma that is often compared to vanilla and coconut. In the Bandoeng’22 Flight to Java, pandan adds depth and softness to the floral character of the drink while balancing the acidity of lemon juice.

For bartenders and home mixologists exploring pandan cocktail recipes, this cocktail demonstrates how pandan can elevate classic cocktail structures with subtle tropical complexity.
