A country shaped by flavor
Czech Republic has a long and proud drinking culture. The world knows the Czechs for their love of beer. For over 30 consecutive years, Czechia has topped the global ranking, with an impressive 188.5 liters of beer consumed per person annually.
Travel east toward Moravia, and the spotlight shifts to wine. This historic region has been producing wine since the 9th century and now cultivates around 40,000 acres of vineyards, including a growing focus on authentic wines.
Despite the beer-wine divide between Bohemia and Moravia, certain spirits unite the country. Two stand out: Becherovka and Slivovice, both essential in Czech celebrations, gatherings and family traditions.
Becherovka
A herbal liqueur made from a famously secret blend of “20 herbs and spices.” Created in 1805, it carries flavours of ginger, clove, cinnamon and pine. Traditionally served chilled as a digestif, it also shines in cocktails like the Beton (Becherovka, tonic, lime).
Slivovice
A plum brandy with roots across Central and Eastern Europe but deeply tied to rural Moravia. Often considered a national drink, Slivovice sparks the eternal debate: serve it cold for smoothness, or warm for full flavour?
