A part of my roots in every bottle
My name is Fajar Ramadhany, and I am one of the three co-founders of Bandoeng’22. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and moved to the Netherlands when I was twelve. Since then, I have lived in a small coastal town in Noord-Holland, carrying with me a strong connection to my Indonesian roots and especially to the flavours, aromas and traditions I grew up with.
That connection to heritage became one of the foundations of Bandoeng’22. For me, this liqueur is more than a product. It is a way to express identity, memory and pride through flavor.
From international business to a dream of my own
Before starting my own business, I spent eight years building an international corporate career. Working with people from different backgrounds and in different countries gave me valuable experience and broadened my perspective. But deep down, I always felt the desire to build something of my own, something that connected entrepreneurship with my roots.
Starting my own businesses brought me closer to the world, to new opportunities, and eventually back to the cultural inspiration that had always been part of me.
Why Bandoeng’22 means so much to me
As the father of two Dutch-Indonesian daughters, I feel a strong responsibility to keep our cultural heritage alive and meaningful for the next generation. Bandoeng’22 became part of that journey. Together with Mariska van Beek and Marc Pieplenbosch, I helped start the Bandoeng’22 story in 2017, leading to the successful launch of our Pandan Liqueur in 2019.
For me, Bandoeng’22 is also about legacy. It is about creating something that my daughters can connect to — a story, a taste and a sense of where they come from.
Bringing Southeast Asian flavor to a wider audience
With Bandoeng’22, I want to help bring Southeast Asian flavors to a wider audience in a way that feels modern, premium and authentic. Coming from outside the food and beverage industry, this was a bold challenge, but also a unique opportunity. I am proud that we created a liqueur built around pandan and layered spice character, a flavor profile that reflects both familiarity and discovery. In every sip, there is a small part of my roots.
The world is ready for authentic Southeast Asian flavor
The recognition Bandoeng’22 has received in international competitions confirms something I strongly believe: the world is ready for spirits and liqueurs with authentic Southeast Asian character.
That is what keeps inspiring me. I want more people to discover how rich, versatile and exciting these flavors can be, especially in cocktails, food pairings and modern hospitality.
A founder story shaped by heritage and ambition
Bandoeng’22 is where heritage and ambition come together. It is a brand built on flavor, identity and the wish to share something personal with the world. For me, that is what makes this journey so meaningful: creating something modern while staying connected to where I come from.
A part of my roots in every bottle.
