Seven years ago, we launched Bandoeng’22 Pandan Liqueur through a crowdfunding campaign. What started as a small idea inspired by our roots has since grown into an internationally awarded liqueur brand, available in more than 20 countries worldwide. Now, we are ready for the next step.
Started on Monday, May 18, we launched a new crowdfunding campaign through CrowdAboutNow for the introduction of Bandoeng’22 Spiced Tamarind Liqueur: a premium liqueur inspired by the bold and layered flavors of Southeast Asia and the popular Indonesian dish Rujak.
A New Flavor Behind the Bar
With Spiced Tamarind, we wanted to create a flavor that immediately stands out behind the bar, while remaining approachable and versatile.
The result is a unique balance of sweet, sour, spicy and subtle umami notes, inspired by the expressive flavor combinations commonly found throughout Southeast Asian cuisine.
We developed the liqueur specifically for:
- cocktails and highballs
- spritz serves
- desserts
- neat or over ice
- food pairings
- to give drinks an Asian twists
As bartenders and consumers continue to explore fresher and more distinctive Asian flavor profiles, we believe tamarind offers something genuinely new within the premium liqueur category.
What is Tamarind?
Tamarind is a tropical fruit widely used across Southeast Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern and Latin American cuisines. The fruit grows inside brown pods and is known for its refreshing sweet-and-sour character.
In cooking, tamarind is often used in sauces, curries, chutneys, candies and drinks because of its deep fruity acidity and complexity. Behind the bar, tamarind is increasingly appreciated for bringing freshness, balance and depth to cocktails, especially in highballs, sours and tropical-style serves. More about Tamarind.
Despite its popularity in food culture worldwide, tamarind is still rarely available as a premium liqueur. That opportunity became one of the starting points for this project.
Inspired by Rujak
The inspiration behind our Spiced Tamarind Liqueur comes from Rujak, a well-known Indonesian fruit salad famous for its bold contrast of flavors.
Traditional Rujak combines tropical fruits with ingredients such as tamarind, palm sugar, nuts, chili and spices, resulting in a layered combination of sweet, sour, spicy and savory notes. That distinctive balance became the creative foundation of the liqueur.
For us, the project is not only about introducing a new flavor, but also about translating a familiar Southeast Asian taste experience into a modern product for the international hospitality industry. More about Rujak.
From Pandan to Tamarind
Back in 2019, we launched Bandoeng’22 Pandan Liqueur through the same crowdfunding platform. Since then, the brand has grown steadily, with distribution across Europe, the United States and Australia.
Over the past months, we have fully prepared the next step ourselves; recipe development, production and distillation planning, bottle and packaging design, distribution preparation. With this crowdfunding campaign, we want to finance the first production batch and accelerate the launch of Spiced Tamarind internationally. Starting in the Netherlands first.
What Will the Funding Be Used For?
Through the crowdfunding campaign, we aim to raise between €50,000 and €100,000 to finance:
- the first production batch
- bottling and packaging
- miniature bottles for activations and sampling
- national marketing and launch campaigns
- preparation for international expansion
Investors participate through a loan structure with; 5% annual interest, a 5-year term and the first year will be repayment-free.
