Our ‘Why’: Rooted in heritage. Crafted with purpose.

It all started with a simple idea: What if there was a liqueur that could infuse cocktails, desserts, and coffee with the flavours of Asia?

The Rempah
We grew up with the vibrant tastes and aromas of the Indonesian kitchen, dishes that owe their depth to Rempah: traditional spice blends passed down through generations. These spices, lovingly called the “kruidenkabinet van grootmoeder” (grandmother’s spice cabinet), are the soul of Dutch Indonesian cuisine. For us, they are more than ingredients, they represent memories, family traditions, and cultural pride.

Bandoeng’22 was born from that heritage. Named after the city of Bandoeng (the old Dutch spelling of Bandung) on the island of Java, the brand pays tribute to our roots. This city, known for its culinary richness and historical significance, is where pandan grows wild and fragrant. Its name reflects our identity, our story, and our love for food and drink.

 

Rempah

Pandan Liqueur
At Bandoeng’22, we develop, and market unique premium liqueurs inspired by Rempah, blended with the precision of Dutch distilling craftsmanship. Our first creation, Bandoeng’22 Pandan Liqueur, captures the essence of pandan, a beloved leaf used in both sweet and savory Asian dishes and combines it with warming notes of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg. All spices and herbs from grandmother’s spice cabinet.

Pandan is celebrated by chefs worldwide for its distinctive aroma and flavor, often described as nutty, floral, and slightly grassy. We saw an opportunity to translate this into a versatile, high-quality liqueur that could elevate cocktails, enhance desserts, and even complement a cup of coffee.
